Proposal

A WORKING TITLE
The working title is Life in Between.

GENRE AND PURPOSE
The genre of the TV show is action and adventure and the purpose of the TV show is to fill a gap in the market for children.

TARGET AUDIENCE
The target audience is male. They are aged from 5 – 10 years. Their parents have a ABC1 background because you want to buy toys and games from merchandising. 

AN INDICATION OF STYLE
Indication of style is animations.

A SYNOPSIS
A synopsis of the TV show is a boy goes on a quest to save the world from an evil guy and goes up against many bad guys and makes friends on the way.                                       
SCHEDULING
The best time for this to be shown will be a Saturday morning from about 7-9 am because that morning is when children are mostly in front of the TV.



Finances and Budgeting

I intend to fund my TV show using Kickstarter and when it starts to generate funding and buzz, I'll go to other investors and I'll be able to say that this is a thing people want.  I also apply for funding from Yorkshire Content Fund.  They will give me 10% of the budget from between £10 thousand to £50 thousand and they'll do this for producers based in Yorkshire.

To investigate above and below the line advertising methods that could be used to advertise Life In Between, choose a real-life case study on a similar product and conduct research into how the product reached its target audience.

How the show has reached its target audience?
Episode Content
Each episode is different they visit different interesting locations. For example they visit factories and present to their young audience how things are made this appeals to them because they are not around these sort of environments or exposed to them.
Competitions, Challenges , Live Audience
Presenters
In this magazine show the presenters are young and energetic, which makes this appealing to an audience because they are knowledgeable as well as fun/interesting to the target audience.
Studio Setting 
The studio very much appeals though its blue themed set. Also, the colourful lighting themes such as orange, red, pink etc.
Blue Peter couch where discussions can be discussed informative 
Marble colouring stage flooring to attract the target audience. Being both gender audience the colour theme is quite unisex and exciting. 
Where and When Blue Peter is on

Blue Peter is presented on Thursdays at 5:30pm this is perfect timing due to it being on at a time where the target audience is off school and free to tune in. 














Pick three above the line methods and three below the line methods and analyse the strengths and weaknesses of each in reaching the target audience.

Write up this research and how it would help you think about how you could advertise Life In Between.

HOMEWORK TASK AS A START TO LO2

·         You should think about the ways in which researchers can identify gaps in the market based on purpose and target audience. 

·         Look at http://www.barb.co.uk/ and http://www.tvguide.co.uk/ and identify the most popular types of television programming across the main UK channels of BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky One based on viewing figures. 

·         Identify the purpose of these programmes and the target audiences. 

·         Identify a gap in the market by analysing the types of programming and audiences that are not catered for and justify their answers based on research. 
Looking at the Barb.co.uk website it clearly presents the types of genres that have been popular and most viewing figures in the UK. 
The figures show Entertainment to be the most popular genre in the week 15 Oct+. However, religious related programmes were least watched/ viewed.

Life In Between will be an entertainment genre through including education, competitions ,trendy topics etc.This being popular for 12-17 year old groups.

These viewing figures for BBC1 clearly shows the popular shows top be reality shows at the top 3. Strictly come Dancing and the apprentice. BBC1's. The target audience for these programmes are people aged 25+ this is also portrayed through the time they are being showed 8:00pm plus. These are the times where adults are free and home.



BBC2 figures shows documentary genres being the popular genre on the programme. The channel is targeted at an older audience.This is due to older audiences enjoy watching documentaries.The target audience is ABC1 due to it having shows such as University Challenge which means the audience are people who may have higher education.Also, it is the second most popular programme making the ABC1 category clear.





ITV clearly presents entertainment as it main channel genre and soaps to be the most popular for viewers. C2DE female category 
is the target audience of the ITV. These shows are also targeted at adults due to the time of the shows being presented at later times after 8:00pm.





SKY1 viewing figures also show entertainment to be the most popular shown genre shown on this phone. The target audience is C2DE 18+.

Public archives – what are they/what do they for?
Public Archive is a place in which public records or historical materials (such as documents) are preserved

The NRS (National Readership Survey)

Media databases – what are they/what do they for?
Media Contacts Database is a media database that is specific for people in the media, most commonly journalists.
Press archives – what are they/what do they for?

 Content libraries – what are they/what do they for?
A data repository, in which items such as text, text boxes, pictures, tables, shapes, etc. can be stored and re-used within the same document and across multiple documents.
Social media libraries – what are they/what do they for?
A data repository for social media.E.g. A storage of tweets, images etc used on social media

Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board delivers the official viewing figures for UK television audiences.

Readership Figure- Allow researchers to see the type and amount of people who are reading a newspaper magazine etc. This also allows you to see what kind of people are purchasing these type of products through the NRS ABC1-C2DE Category.
Viewer figures- Barb allows researches to also see the amount of people watching a programme each day. Allow researches to have an understanding on what shows are popular and show which are not.

D) How can we check validity and reliability of information offered by the source?
Cross Checking- This is finding the same information from a different source to ensure that the information is reliable swell as valid.Also this benefits researchers to allow them to be sure on the information being trust worthy.
